To-do list rebels, this one’s for you

What would make me feel better?

I’ve been trying something new lately.

Instead of writing a to-do list, I write a list called:

“What would make me feel better?”

The things on it probably sound familiar.

Make the bed.

Tidy one small space.

Cook something nice (not another bowl of Shreddies)

Go for a short walk.

Stretch for five minutes.

They’re the same tasks I used to put on my to-do list. But changing the wording made a huge difference.

As a neurodivergent person, I often resist being told what to do, even by myself. Calling it a to-do list makes my brain check out. Calling it “What would make me feel better?” changes the energy completely.

Suddenly, watering the plants or changing my sheets wasn’t about obligation, but taking care of myself. About choosing one small thing that might help my day feel lighter.

Sometimes, it’s not the task that’s hard. It’s how we frame it.

With careers conversations happening and deadlines piling up, it’s easy to feel like everything needs to be done at once. Real momentum often starts with small, kind steps forward.

That’s something we try to reflect in Booost and Luna too.

You can break work into smaller pieces. Add tasks in your own words. Prioritise what matters today. Track progress without pressure. Build routines that fit how you work, not how you think you should. And when things feel overwhelming, there’s support to help you pause, reset, and get started again.

They’re not there to tell you what to do. They’re there to help you organise your thoughts, make things feel less full-on, and make learning feel more manageable.

So if everything feels a bit heavy right now, maybe try asking yourself:

What would make me feel better?

Then start there.
