I didn't have to run the same race

For a long time, exam season felt like a race I’d never trained for.

Everyone else seemed to be moving while I was still stuck at the starting line, wondering why everything felt so hard.

I wasn’t lazy (as my tutors sometimes assumed) or disinterested – in fact, quite the opposite. I was really into my subjects, so why couldn't I get going like everyone else?

The more I compared myself, the heavier it felt. I thought the problem was effort – that if I just pushed harder, I’d catch up. But it only made the finish line feel further away.

A good friend reminded me that we don't all think or work in the same way, and that's not a flaw.

I have many strengths: I'm creative. I can hyperfocus. I'm naturally curious.

So how was it that I could get completely absorbed in organising my kitchen cupboards but still struggle to start an assignment?

It was the same brain at work – bringing those strengths, while also making some things feel harder. Getting started, staying organised, or knowing how to keep going when something goes wrong.

Then above-mentioned friend said this:

Maybe you’re not meant to run the same race – or at least not in the same way.

That really stuck with me.

It might have looked like I was standing still, left in everyone’s dust. But I was in my own lane, where I could speed up, slow down or do things a different way.

When it was time to start again, small bits of practical support made the biggest difference. Breaking work into steps. Seeing what’s coming up. Tracking progress. Building routines that actually worked for me.

That same idea carries through into Booost and Luna.

Booost keeps everything together – your study, socials, and what’s coming next – so you’re not constantly trying to figure out where to begin. And when revision rolls around, Luna helps lighten the load, turning notes into flashcards and using confidence scores to gently show what needs more practice, so you can focus without the guesswork.

I stopped measuring my progress against someone else’s pace.

I chose a track that actually fits how my brain works.

If you’re curious about finding a rhythm that feels more like you, I’d love to help you explore what Booost and Luna could look like in your day.

And if you happen to be in Cardiff on 30 April, we’ll be at the National Neurodiversity Show – come and say hello and explore tools, support and ideas designed around different ways of thinking.

Until next month!
